Nordic Ecolabel certification

MOSO Bamboo Forest is the first bamboo product to be certified under the very stringent Nordic Swan Ecolabelling scheme. The Nordic Ecolabel is the most well-known and most respected eco-certification for many product groups in Nordic countries (Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Iceland and Finland).

MOSO Bamboo Forest met all the strict requirements regarding healthy component materials, sustainably sourced bamboo, safe & environmentally friendly production, proper waste management, low VOC emissions and low energy use during consumption.

Indoor emissions

For a healthy indoor climate it is important that products used indoors have very low emissions and comply with the official European E1 norm (EN 717-1). All MOSO® products meet this standard, while several MOSO® products even comply with E0, the strictest (unofficial) emission class available. Furthermore, all MOSO® bamboo floors have been rated A and A+ in France with respect to emissions of volatile organic compounds: the best classification possible!

Carbon footprint moso bamboo.png

MOSO® has commissioned Delft University of Technology to execute an official LCA and carbon footprint study. The report, available on request, concludes that all assessed MOSO® products (all solid bamboo flooring, decking, panels and veneer) are CO2 negative over the full life cycle.

CE marking

Through CE marking the European Union demands various product categories to comply with highest quality requirements. This relates to safety, health, environment and protection of consumers. MOSO® already acquired the CE marking for all of its flooring products years ago. Recently MOSO® has taken the lead in the development of a CE marking for bamboo flooring specifically.

Fire safety flooring

According to EN13501-1 the fire safety of flooring products can be classified ranging from A1fl (non combustible) to Ffl (highly combustible). In order to comply with CE marking all MOSO® floors were tested on fire safety providing a satisfactory result ranging from Bfl to Dfl. MOSO® Bamboo X-treme® products even reach Bfl-class following EN13501-1 and flame spread index Class A following US standard ASTM E84 without use of fire retardants.

Fire safety wall/ceiling

According to EN13501-1 the fire safety of materials for wall/ceiling applications can be classified ranging from A1 (non combustible) to F (highly combustible). MOSO® High Density® materials are tested on fire safety providing a satisfactory result B-s1-d0 for 18 mm and thicker. This result was achieved without impregnation which is impossible with any other wood. MOSO® Bamboo X-treme® products even reach flame spread index Class A following US standard ASTM E84 without use of fire retardants.

Durability class moso bamboo uk.png

Durability class

European Standard EN 350 gives guidance on methods for determining and classifying the durability of wood/bamboo against biological wood-destroying fungi. The natural durability of wood/bamboo can be classified ranging from 1 (very durable) to 5 (not durable). As given in EN 350 standard there are two laboratory methods for determining the durability; CEN/TS 15083-2 for the application of products in direct ground contact; and CEN/TS 15083-1 for the application of products without ground contact.

In both tests MOSO® Bamboo X-treme® products reach the highest durability class (class 1, very durable), which means the product can be used in applications in direct or without ground contact. MOSO® Bamboo N-Finity products are (at present) only tested following CEN/TS 15083-1 and reach the highest durability class (class 1, very durable), which means the product can be used in applications without ground contact.

Use class

European standard EN 335 defines five use classes which represent different service situations to which wood/bamboo products can be exposed. EN 335 gives information about the presence of biological fungi in the different use classes ranging from 5 (most heavy-duty situation, permanently in salt water) to class 1 (lightest use situation, interior dry).

MOSO® Bamboo X-treme® products reach the highest durability class 1 following CEN/TS 15083-2 and CEN/TS 15083-1. This means that the thermally treated and compressed bamboo products can be applied in situations up to use class 4 (exterior in ground contact). MOSO® Bamboo N-Finity products reach the highest durability class following CEN/TS 15083-1. This means that the impregnated bamboo products can be applied in situations up to use class 3 (exterior above the ground).
